We use the imperial system as it works best with most modern quilting, sewing and toy patterns. Imperial units are also standard on modern die cut machines. (1/4yd = ~22cm)
1 unit = Standard Fat Quarter (18" x half width of fabric)
2 units = 1/2 yd
3 units = 3/4 yd
4 units = 1 yd
5 units = 1 1/4 yds
6 units = 1 1/2 yds
...etc...
